In honor of Women's History Month, join us for Frances Ellen Watkins-Harper's visit to the Goodridge Freedom Center.

Excerpts from the one-woman show “Voices of F.E.W.” that chronicles the life of Frances Ellen Watkins-Harper, a pioneering social activist and abolitionist.

Living History Interpreter Frances Ellen Watkins-Harper will share her journey through life during the nineteenth century as an abolitionist, poet, lecturer, suffragette, and champion for social change.

“Meet Lydia Hamilton Smith & Thaddeus Stevens”

Lydia and Thaddeus will share their stories as abolitionists in “Chautauqua style.” Thaddeus Stevens was a fearsome reformer, who never backed down from a fight. He urged Congress to quickly pass the 13th Amendment, which would outlaw slavery forever. Lydia Hamilton Smith was the long-time housekeeper of Thaddeus Stevens, who rose to become a prominent African-American business woman. Together, they worked tirelessly and successfully to ensure that many freedom seekers became freed men and women!

Entrance Fee: $3 per adult and $1 per student/senior

Let the "Festivi-trees" Begin!

Join us for our 3rd Annual Festival of Trees on Wednesdays and Saturdays in November and December from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on First Friday, December 7th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Delight in 'IMAGE' themed decorated trees displayed throughout the museum. Also, visit our NEW 1850's photo gallery and daguerreotype studio. 

Meet our NEW Goodridge Freedom Center Manager Kelly Summerford and enjoy a tour of the Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum.

This event is $1 for students and seniors and $3 for adults.

Golden Venture Anniversary

On the First Friday in June, Goodridge Freedom Center revisits the arrival of the Golden Venture on the shores of America 25 years ago. See how several York residents worked to secure freedom for asylum-seeking passengers who were detained in the York County Prison. Jeff Lobach will speak, and the beautiful paper sculptures the detainees crafted behind prison walls will be on display.
